Founder/Director of Learning Strategy – Monarch Media, Inc.
Chris has an exceptional level of both programming skill and personal integrity. In our field, we need to leverage existing web platforms, plugins, tools and APIs. Chris is incredibly adept at working with a range of technologies and getting things integrated in an optimal way.
He is able to fully own a project and deliver on schedule and on budget. And he will deliver, not just what you ask for, but also make recommendations on how to optimize the approach.
I’ve come to rely on his deep expertise and appreciate his ability to explain and document his process. The documentation and communication he provides help us make sure that things stay on track through complex product builds.
Chris has been a critical extension of our development team and his expertise has been invaluable to our efforts.
Senior eLearning Strategist/Producer – Monarch Media, Inc.
As a project manager it’s incredibly value to have a team member that takes ownership for their role and deliverables in a project like Chris does, especially since Chris brings with him such a unique and diverse skillset and breadth of knowledge to the team. Most recently I worked with Chris on a project that required a complex integration between the Thinkific platform, an externally hosted LRS, and Active Campaign. The solution required automated text and email messaging based on user engagement within the LMS. The platform was untested for a solution of this complexity. It required creative workflow logic, and custom scripts to complete.
Chris delivered on time, and within the budget, while taking full ownership of his portion of the project. Without his support the project would not have launched as smoothly as it did. Chris consistently puts a great deal of thought and attention into his work, while maximizing his time. He has a great deal of integrity, and not only makes sure that his solutions function well, but also ensures that the solutions are built for future success. Throughout projects Chris remains fully engaged, responsive, and collaborative, while approaching challenges with a problem solving attitude, and patience. He’s a joy to work with.
I feel like I found a real gem of a developer with Chris. He’s extremely thorough and explains stuff in great detail, extremely knowledgeable, extremely fast, and charges less than he is worth. Dollar for dollar, it would be hard finding more value in a developer.
Between other developers I have worked with (including my own brother, who I chose Chris over in a heartbeat if that tells you anything) and getting quotes from many more, I appreciate Chris’ approach the most. I truly feel like he’s in my corner. Always looking for unique ways of solving my unique requests, versus just trying to make it easy on himself – like I feel so many developers do.
When choosing a developer based on a quote, you really are still just taking a leap of faith and hope they are what they say they are. Chris is so much more, you will not be disappointed.
I found a delightful development partner in Mr. Ervin. Incredibly thorough, savvy enough to pinpoint gaps in project scope and make appropriate logical connections. Chris has been a guiding hand through a long, complex project with many moving parts and kept a watchful eye and lent a hand long past the deliverable date. Unparalleled and prompt support. Chris also is unique in the freelancer community in that each step of his process is thoroughly explained and documented in detail. Expectation and milestone management is clearly outlined and agreed upon and all of those were met or exceeded. I would easily work with Chris again.

My first impression of Chris was that he put his all into everything he does. I posted a job online and laid out exactly what I was looking for, the scope of the project and the role I was looking to fill. I included some details so applicants could get a reasonable idea of whether their skills fit what I was looking for. Ignoring the copy/paste submissions, I received about 60 real inquiries. Chris’s was immediately different from all of them. He wrote 1200 words about why he was the right person for the job, why his skills matched my needs and how he could contribute to the success of the project. I think I had made up my mind before I finished the email. I had to know what kind of work I would get from someone who put this kind of effort into applying for a job.
Once we got started it became very clear that I needed to expand Chris’s role. The division of labor was supposed to be me running the project and sending tasks to Chris. After talking to him about a few of my concerns he took on much more of a consulting role. It is a really good thing too. We avoided some seriously costly pitfalls because of his input. It became clear that we were going to have to get another company to improve their API in order to meet the client’s needs. I’ll say that again, in order to complete our project we forced another company to improve their product. Without Chris, I would have just assumed we could not do it the way I wanted. Chris not only figured out that their API did not work the way we wanted, but that it both could and should! I’ll admit that this project was a little more complicated, than most of my other projects, but having someone on the team who is imagining the many paths forward, concepting them out and balancing the pros and cons of each option is absolutely invaluable.
I sub-contracted Chris for a job that I was feeling very anxious about. The tasks at hand were really out of the ordinary, some things I never knew WordPress was even capable of. Chris quickly assured me that if they were possible he would be able to complete them. He started working the next day and quickly got his hands dirty. His level of communication, often daily, was on par or better than any other developers I’ve worked with in this industry. Within a couple of weeks, all tasks were completed and I was really excited to show the client what we had accomplished. I’m now searching for projects that I can specifically hire Chris for again. He is one of the greatest assets I have found in my 7 years of freelancing.
Lead Writer – Wonder Media, LLC
Chris’ attention to detail and knowledge of web and database code have been an asset to our company for nearly 2 years. In that time we’ve modified and maintained a subscription-based streaming website and developed two others from the ground up, and Chris’ design, development, and consultation has informed every step of each process. Highly recommended.
Ecommerce Manager – Wonder Media, LLC
I worked with Chris on a project for an Animation Studio, called Wonder Media Group, for about 6 months. I initially hired Chris because he was able to demonstrate technical skill, was pretty all round (back-end and front-end, which is what the company needed), was reasonably priced and seemed to have social capabilities that are sometimes hard to find with developers. During the 6 months I worked with Chris, he was able to solve almost every task we gave him within short time frames. Furthermore, and maybe even more important, the communication was, in my opinion, flawless and always very prompt. All in all my experience with Chris was very pleasant and positive. I would recommend him to every small / medium sized company looking for an all round developer for both projects and longer term commitments.
Founder/Chief Innovation Officer – Monarch Media, Inc.
Chris stepped into a difficult project and was able to take a complex set of requirements and deliver on them with excellence. Working to customize the open-source Moodle platform, Chris showed great programming ability. Over the many months of the project Chris had to work independently and solve challenging problems. He asked great questions and brought new ideas to the project that improved the final product immensely. He’s a great communicator and is able to think holistically to build smart solutions. I’d work with him again in a heartbeat.
